The Limerick Lake Estates Area
Bancroft, Ontario, a short drive from Limerick Lake Estates is a four seasons' playground attracting visitors throughout the year. The Bancroft region is known around the world for its variety and quality of mineral specimens. The Annual Rockhound Gemboree which is Canada's largest gem and mineral show brings over 110 dealers of fine mineral specimens, gemstone jewellery and lapidary supplies.
Nearby Algonquin Provincial Park is made up of a wild expanse of forest, lakes, cliffs, quiet ponds, rivers, rapids, delicate orchids and wildlife. It's natural beauty attracts writers and artists, scientists and photographers, canoeists and campers. Fishing and Wildlife
Limerick Lake has a heavily forested shoreline with is a naturally defined habitat to white-tailed deer, wild turkey, rabbits and other small game.
Shoreline wetland communities are home to many plant species. The natural aquatic environment enables the spottings of great blue herons, kingfishers and spring peepers.
Bird watchers will enjoy sightings of blue jays, chickadees, goldfinch, warblers, woodpeckers, nuthatches and cedar waxwings.
When paddling or boating the sounds of the common loon and other waterfowl are a regular occurrence.
This sparkling lake has several species of fish which include: Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Yellow Perch, Rock Bass, Lake Trout and Sunfish. Fishing season for Lake Trout begins January 1st and runs until September 30th.
Limerick Lake and its four connecting lakes produce some of the best Southeastern Ontario bass fishing known to exist. With the popularity of catch and release fishing, fishermen are again enjoying a level of success not seen since the 40's and 50's. Six pound and over Large and Smallmouth Bass are not uncommon.
Long before bass fishing became famous, the early visitors to Big Salmon Lake (now Limerick Lake) were catching naturally producing Lake Trout in record numbers and incredible size. With careful management by the MNR, the Lake Trout fishing in Limerick Lake remains among the best.
